Q1. ずっと仕事を続けるにあたり、幼少（あるいは若いころ）影響を受けた人を一人か二人挙げてください。
Who motivated you to pursue your long-term career?
Answer やはり両親でしょうか。母は私が小学校に上がる頃まで専業主婦でしたが、その後父の商売を手伝う為、毎日、店に出勤していました。その為自分のことは自分でする、自分で考える、という習慣が自然と身につきましたね。そして女性も家庭外で働くのが当たり前という考えが芽生えた様に思います。
My parents. My mother started working for my father’s business shortly after I started elementary school. Due to both of my parents working, I had to learn how to do things for myself and think for myself. Watching my Mother working outside of home, it began to seem more and more natural for women to work over time.
Q2. アメリカに来たきっかけを教えて下さい。
What made you decide to come to the United States?
Answer 結婚です。2年間空手の修行をしながら英語教師をしていたアメリカ人の夫に大阪で知り合い結婚してしまいました。結婚後2年間、私の出身地阪神間で一緒に暮らした後、アイオワ州の医科大学に入学した夫についてアメリカに来ました。アメリカに来て35年になります。アメリカで生涯暮らすことになるなど全くの予定外でした。
Marriage. I met my husband when he was Karate practitioner and English teacher in Osaka, Japan. After we were married for 2 years living in Ashiya, Japan, he was accepted into medical school. The school was in Iowa, so we had to move to the U.S. It has been 35 years since that move, and I am still here. Even though it was totally out of my plans for my life, though….
Q3. 今後DJCWをどのように発展させていきたいですか？
How would you like to develop DJCW?
Answer 多くの女性が道を切り開いてきました。その先駆者の苦労や経験を後から続く女性達たちに伝え、もっと女性が個々の特性を生かし羽ばたける場を切り開く足場を作ってあげられるような組織にしたいですね。
Many women have previously and successfully established a place for all women in the business world. I hope to pass on their stories and experiences to young women who are coming into work place, and that DJCW will provide the stepping stones for their success.
Q4. これから社会に出てキャリアウーマンを目指している女子学生に対して一言。
What is your advise for female students who are willing to pursue as career women?
Answer 女性が家庭を持ち子育てしながら働き続けるのは大変です。でも家庭か仕事かを選択しなければいけない時代は終わったと思います。良き伴侶を見つけお互いがお互いの良さをひき出して協力しながら家庭と仕事のバランスをとり、キャリアを積む様にしていってほしいと思います。 We all know it is difficult to be successful in work place while still raising family, especially for women. However, the era of women choosing work or home is ended. I hope everyone find a good partner to bring out the best of each other and work together to have work/life balance and build their careers.
