Q1. 現在はどのようなお仕事をされていますか？ What is your occupation?
Answer 映画やドラマ、アニメ、ドキュメンタリー、リアリティ番組などの字幕翻訳者、映像編集者です。NETFLIXのCreative Production チームに所属し、主に日本語作品の編集とQC（品質管理）を担当しています。昨年は手作りマスクのブランドNozomi Design Studioを副業として立ち上げ、ミツワ プレイノ店や地元コーヒー店で販売しています。
I am an editor and a translator for subtitles for movies, dramas, animation, documentaries and reality shows. I work for the NETFLIX creative production team and am in charge of editing mostly Japanese media and quality control. Last year, I launched Nozomi Design Studio, which is a brand for handmade masks as my side business and sell them at Mitsuwa Plano and a local coffee shop.
Q2. お仕事でやりがいを感じるのはどのような時ですか？ What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Answer 自分の作った字幕で視聴者が外国語作品を楽しめ、オリジナル音声の外国語に親しむチャンスを提供する事です。動画配信サービスは、優れた日本語作品も世界中の人々に届けています。ボーダーレスの新しい視聴体験を可能にする、映像とITの最先端で仕事に携われる事は大きなやりがいです。
I feel rewarded when audiences enjoy foreign media with subtitles that I created, so that they are able to have opportunities to listen to original languages. We are delivering excellent Japanese media to worldwide audiences through a streaming service. It is truly rewarding to be involved in media and advanced IT which enable our audience to have borderless and new viewing experiences.
Q3. 逆にお仕事で大変だと感じるのはどのような時ですか？ On the other hand, what are the difficult parts of your work?
Answer 映像編集や字幕制作は、「24～30分の1秒」というフレーム単位で行うため、とても神経を使います。監督の作品へのこだわりや背景を理解し、字幕表記の裏を取るリサーチ力も必要です。納期が短い仕事も多く、二児の子育てとのバランスを保つのが難しいですね。
Editing media and subtitle creation is based on "24-30 frames per second", and I need to pay attention to a lot of details. It is required to understand context and the directors' intention of their work, and to research to make sure subtitles are accurate. The deadlines of work tend to be short, and sometimes it is difficult to maintain work-life balance as a mother of two children.
Q4. これから仕事面、プライベートどちらでも何かチャレンジしたいことはありますか？ Is there something new that you would like to try, either for your work or private life?
Answer PGAのゴルフコースがフリスコにオープンしますので、この機会にゴルフを始めたいですね。
I would like to start playing golf as there will be a PGA golf course in Frisco. I think this is a good opportunity.
